Controller Walk Speed – Customizable Movement Speed Control v1.6

Frustrated at choosing between Arthur’s slow stroll on the left stick vs. full run with the button? This mod gives you full analog control over movement speed. Configure your stick max from walk to jog to run, add tap-to-cycle speed tiers, and tap/hold to run. Smooth, customizable control across the entire speed range.

Usage
Configure your desired max speed in the INI file (default is a fast walk). Then just play – push the left stick to move at any speed up to your configured max, with full analog control across the range. When you want to run or sprint, use the run/sprint button as normal; the mod steps aside and lets vanilla handle it, then smoothly takes back over when you slow down.

Optionally, enable jog speed tiers for intermediate speeds between your walk max and full run. Each tap of the run/sprint button advances to the next tier. If you use “hold to run” in your game settings, holding the button skips straight to vanilla run from any tier.

Config
Edit ControllerWalkSpeed.ini in your game directory:

Walk Speed
– MaxSpeed — max speed from stick input alone (default 130). 100 = vanilla walk, 130 = fast walk, 160 = casual jog, 200 = full run.

Jog Speed Tiers
– EnableJogSpeed — enable intermediate speed tiers above the base walk speed (default 1 = on).
– JogSpeeds — comma-separated list of speed tiers, cycled through with each tap of the run/sprint button (default 160). Values should be between MaxSpeed and 200. With “hold to run” (game setting), holding the button skips straight to vanilla run from any tier.

Aiming
– AffectAiming — whether the mod applies while aiming a weapon (default 0 = off). Experimental: aim + run may not work quite right when enabled.
– MaxSpeedAiming — speed to use while aiming, if AffectAiming is on. The game applies its own speed reduction while aiming, so the effective speed will be lower than equivalent MaxSpeed values.

Install
– Requires ScriptHookRDR2 V2
– Drop ControllerWalkSpeed.asi and ControllerWalkSpeed.ini into your game directory.
– Controller only — no effect on keyboard/mouse.

Changes from crossed99’s Controller Fix
Based on Controller Movement Fix by crossed99 (thanks for sharing the source code!)
– Configurable max analog stick speed via INI (original was hardcoded at run)
– Smoother analog curve for speed variation across the stick range
– Configurable jog speed tiers – tap the run button to cycle through intermediate speeds
– Hold-to-run support – holding the button skips jog tiers and goes straight to vanilla run
– Run/sprint functionality reverts to vanilla instead of being reimplemented by the mod
– Smoother animation transitions when starting and changing speeds

Version History
– 1.0 – Initial release
– 1.1 – Fixed dependency compilation issue
– 1.2 – Fixed to work for control schemes with toggle to run rather than hold to run.
– 1.3 – Fixed case where the mod was impacting speed when aiming a weapon.
– 1.4 – Added options for folks who wish to experiment with impacting speeds while aiming.
– 1.5 – Add “jog speeds” optional feature – tap to increase to an intermediate speed above your configured max walk. E.g. stick by itself goes to 130, tap to go to 160, tap/hold to go to run speed of 200.
– 1.6 – Couple minor improvements, including addressing an issue causing you to walk very briefly forward first, e.g. causing you to bump in to your horse after patting/brushing it.
